Riccardo Ascani was born in Rome (italy) in 1965 and is a flamenco
guitarist and composer from the jazzistic past. Before being completely
involved in flamenco he played with a lot of famous jazz players like
George Coleman, Joe Pass, Jim Kelly, Antonello Salis, Pippo Matino,
Massimo Urbani.
In 1991 he won a plaque of merit issued by the
Berklee College of Music in Boston. In 1992 he takes contacts with the
great masters of the flamenco guitar ( Paco de Lucia, Gerardo Nunez,
Manolo Sanlucar, Serranito, Juan Manuel Canizares, Rafael Riqueni) and
with the most important association and academy of flamenco like the
famous Pena flamenca "los Cernicalos" of Jerez de la Frontera.
Today Riccardo Ascani has played in the best clubs and theatres of Italy
and Europe and is above all the author of own musical project, his last
two albums, called respectively "Byzantine" and "De vida y Amor" (also
available on iTunes), trend towards the combination between flamenco,
classical, jazz and pop music, searching a musicality without too many
labels and kind distinctions.
We want also remind the Riccardo Ascani collaboration with the dancer
Cristina Benitez and with the vocal female trio "Appassionante"
recording his guitar on the album "Salve".
